COSTS for Volunteer and Internships vary greatly, and are based on many factors, work placement, supervision, housing and meal choices, language (or not), and so on.

BASIC:  Application, Placement and Support includes all communication prior to arrival, service/immersion placement, arranging for airport pick up (but not cost of transportation), written and personal orientation**, 24/7 in-country support throughout the time of stay, home stay or posada arrangements (but not cost of accommodations).

COMPLETE:  Full Accompaniment and Accommodations includes all the above plus cost of accommodations, meals, airport pickup, and ongoing informational and academic programming.

The following options are available:

Housing at Homestay or Posada: Accommodations vary from a room in a home to a room in a hostel or furnished apartment. Kitchen access available and various meal options. Prices range from $240 – $550 per month.

Airport Pick Up: Pick up from closest airport – Tuxtla Gutierrez for San Cristóbal placements and Guatemala City for Santiago Atitlán placements – $60-$100

Language Study in Chiapas: Spanish or Mayan language classes. College credit is available for Spanish study. Prices and more information at Instituto Jovel.

All volunteers and interns receive a pre-arrival information packet  with trip packing suggestions, emergency contact information, introductory explanation of local realities and general historical and political background information. Upon arrival you will participate in orientation sessions with follow-up discussions of local culture and general historical and political orientation as well as a physical orientation to your site and the surrounding area.
