Anadesa: We are survivors!

GRATITUDE FOR SURVIVAL AFTER STORM STAN 2005.

Sixteen years after the suffering of the landslide, Maria Ramirez Cristal still shows gratitude for having helped the survivors after the storm Stan that occurred in 2005. This storm affected the community of Panabaj in the municipality of Santiago Atitlán, leaving many families homeless, children orphaned, women widowed and parents without children.

As a result of the storm, ANADESA (Asociación Nuevo Amanecer de Santiago Atitlán) emerged as a non-profit humanitarian association with a board of directors made up of indigenous women and victims of the storm. As well as its members,  there are the women who thought about the survival of their families and neighbors.

As time went by, the Association had many difficulties and challenges. Today María Cristal. the Vice President of the Association, expresses "The previous years were more difficult, but we did not give up, we fought until we got to where we are now. Everything we have achieved has been thanks to the people who support us and encourage us whether they are near or far away".

Everything that human beings do in this world contributes to either the good or the bad. People who know how to value things are grateful for the good that has been generated.

Thank you ANADESA for your work with 72 children, 36 adolescents, 32 women, 91 fathers and mothers of families, and who has provided employment to 8 people in rural areas.

And you, what are you contributing to the community?
