Mujeres Sembrando la Vida (MSV): Holy Week in MSV
For MSV these dates are sacred and respected. All of our members attempt to finish all loom and embroidery productions to leave nothing pending.
One of the cultural customs of our grandmothers was to tell us that we must finish our loom on time, since we should not work on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of Holy Week..
Since our childhood, our grandmothers taught us our cultural traditions. For example, we were instructed on which foods we can eat and which we cannot. We may eat fish, shrimp, vegetables and fruits. The foods that should not be eaten are: chicken, eggs or beans. This is because chicken takes the shape of a vulture and beans turn into flies.
Our members take advantage of these days to spend with their families. Some go to church and others go for walks. The people who go for walks usually go on Fridays. Among the places they go include: San Juan Chamula, El Trapichito or Tulanca, which is a place located beyond Amatenango.
Each family celebrates Holy Week in a different way. MSV respects the living customs and traditions of each of its
members .It also allows them to rest on those days.
