Pueblo a Pueblo: Women living in dignity.

Dignified Women's Reproductive Health

A woman's reproductive age begins at maturity. Information and education at an early age is very important for women in our community.

Gender inequality, poverty, and lack of education about female hygiene make girls and women vulnerable concerning human rights, and therefore, also their dignity.

In the healthy women's program, we have a reproductive health project aimed at adolescent women.

In this project we give educational talks to organized groups of women.

So far this year we have given three women's health classes to thirty women of reproductive age. We emphasize not only women's health but also contribute to the protection of the environment by way of sanitary alternatives.

Candy is a young lady from the rural area of the municipality who studied social work. She was so impressed by the project that she organized a group of women to learn about reproductive health.

She says that while earning a university degree, she had not known about women's monthly cycles. She feels happy to have contributed to the women in her community and to have given them an opportunity to have some knowledge on the subject.

Candy expressed her thoughts:

"Sexual and reproductive health is an essential topic in the life of every woman, which should be spoken clearly to each person allowing them to know their body.

However due to the lack of information on this topic, many women do not understand about the process of their monthly cycle, which causes many doubts.

Since this is a taboo topic a taboo in our society, many questions go unanswered.

Personally, I thank Pueblo for this opportunity to transmit such basic but uncommon knowledge in the rural communities. "I consider it an important process for the empowerment of women and a space for them to express themselves and feel confident."

This is how Pueblo a Pueblo continues to contribute to women's health, believing that the more education they receive, the more the world will change step by step.

We know that these women will share with their sisters, friends, mothers, grandmothers and others to reach more women.
