Ruk’ux Scholarship: Women’s rights
My name is Dayana and I am a Ruk'ux scholarship recipient
Women should not be afraid of occupying important positions in society and expressing their ideas and opinions.
We are as capable as men of achieving great things.
International Women's Day was created to remember that there was an end to humiliation, machismo, rejection, mistreatment and violence against women; with the objective of a positive change towards women, giving them a dignified space to participate, act and express opinions.
This makes us reflect that we are women of great value, brave, capable of building something in life, where we deserve to be accepted and respected.
According to our grandparents, in the past, women were mistreated, humiliated, insulted and rejected. In addition, marriages were arranged and unexpected.
They were forced to marry at an early age with a stranger.
It is also said that women were only kept at home, doing the housework, because for men, women were only good for that.
They were not allowed to participate, give their opinion, act, study, much less lead society.
They were humiliated because men believed themselves superior and that women were not capable of achieving things on their own, such as studying and working.
From childhood they were taught to work at home, they had no right to study, they were only dedicated to serve men and take care of their families.
Women should be treated with respect and value, be given space to participate, express their opinions and act, without anyone impeding them; they deserve to be listened to and have their decisions taken into account.
The treatment of women in the community is no longer as it used to be, but there are still cases where women are mistreated, but now there are laws that protect women's rights.
Women's rights are:
To have a life free of violence
A life of dignity
To education
To work
To have and manage a salary, etc.
Therefore all women have the right to participate and have a say in all activities where they want to be involved, such as: at work, at home, in meetings, in the street, with their friends, in community committees and others.
Today we see women occupying important positions such as: mayors, leaders, entrepreneurs, innovators and others.
