Traveling Library: Our new English teacher.

Antonio English Teacher

Today we talk about Antonio Vicente, the new English teacher at La Puerta Abierta. Antonio is a wonderful person. Every day he shows his great dedication to his job as an English teacher. He spends every day with the goal of improving and learning about the things around him.

Recently I’ve taken the initiative of using English books to tell stories about emotions.

Books that convey emotions make the children connect to, and identify with themselves. The higher grades such as sixth and fifth make an effort to write new words and pronounce them also, to enrich their vocabulary.

Antonio comments that he has been very surprised. Because the English books have been a great tool for him in his classes. Also the other informative books help him to enrich his personal vocabulary in order to pass it on to the children in the future.

One thing Antonio would love to have is dictionaries of English books so that every child could have their own book and get to explore more English words.

The books continue to impact the Puerta Abierta community in different ways for the learning and development of the Maya-Tz'utujil children.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your great support of the library, we feel fortunate to be able to support the education of the children of Santiago Atitlán through books. We hope to have more books on different topics to meet the learning needs of the children, youth and adults of the community.
