Mujeres Sembrando la Vida (MSV): Our monthly activities
A bit about our activities
During the months of July and August, the women of the cooperative faced great challenges. One of the biggest goals we have always had is to be able to integrate the ancient techniques of weaving and embroidery with the expectations of the global market, which seems to change every year!
So we were all very focused on producing new designs that included a new color palette. Changing the palettes of our products is challenging because we have to guide our color combinations based on information we find online. Occasionally we get it through the advice of someone we trust who knows us and who can give us an opinion, or through a design workshop.
Aside from those sources of information, we have to guess the aesthetic tastes of people that we don't know who live in places we've never visited!
The purpose of our extensive productivity in July and August was to ship products to the United States so they could be posted on Etsy's artisan site. Addison, a member of the Natik Board of Directors, manages the site.
Showing our products on Etsy offers us the opportunity to publicize the cooperative and the products that are designed and produced by hand.
The resources obtained through the sale of our products contribute to the economic sustenance of our families. Each sale made means a profit for us.
In addition, 5% of the profit from the sale goes to a shared fund for the artisans for emergency illnesses, and 5% supports the Yo'onik educational project.
It fills us with satisfaction that people in other countries want to buy the products of Mujeres Sembrando la Vida.
