Mujeres Sembrando la Vida:  Pascuala’s story.

My name is Pascuala.

When I was a little girl, my mother taught me to knit. She also taught me how to embroider, but to be honest, I prefer to weave.

Twenty one years ago, I met Magdalena, and she invited me to participate in a cooperative that she was forming. My children were still young, so I had to stay at home to take care of them. For this reason, I found it interesting to be able to weave at home and help my husband cover some of our family expenses.

Magdalena participated in many design and quality workshops. At first, she shared the information and then, when my children were older, I accompanied her in some of the workshops.

Magdalena handed over the responsibility of the cooperative to her daughters Xunka and Yoli when they graduated from university.

Since then, we continue to experiment with new designs and products. I like the challenge of thinking of new designs using new color combinations to sell the products in far away and different places.

I am very happy to be able to work at home and thus help my family. My children could study more in school than my husband and I, because we earned more money than our parents did when we were young.

It encourages me to know that we can carry on with our culture while earning money and continuing to learn at every turn.
