Traveling Library: We love sharing stories

Sharing stories with a girl’s group

This year some new people have arrived at our school. One of them is Leslie, a girl who loves reading and sharing stories.

On Saturdays Leslie is in charge of a group of girls that we have started. With them she shares books and practices reading. The girls are very excited to belong to that group because they get to hang out with other girls of different ages.

Leslie comments: Practicing reading with the girls is fascinating, Each girl is a world. Because of the difference in their ages, we can see the levels of.critical thinking in connection to different topics. In addition to that, the coexistence of the girls in the community helps develop the relationships between them.

One of the books that Leslie liked to share is "Guapa" which talks about self-esteem. It is a special book that raises awareness about each girl's or person's self-love. Therefore, it is a great tool to develop the growth of critical thinking in girls, as well as raising awareness about their values and rights.

The girls are the future women of our community in "Santiago Atitlan". Practicing stories and reading with them about different topics of development and empowerment about themselves is very important. This whole objective is to grow, give voice and create better citizens.

Books continue to have a big impact on the children of Santiago Atitlán through different activities. The Open Door Library is very motivated to continue promoting education and development through books. We appreciate your support and donations to our library. We trust in the power of books and are creating a large impact on the community of Santiago Atitlán through them.

Thank you - Maltiyoox
