Puerta Abierta Traveling Library: Building a virtual library.

Our Virtual Library

Today we want to share with you our excitement about some of the advances at the Open Door library. During the month of July we held a meeting with the library staff of the Universidad Del Valle de Sololá. We wanted to learn about the system they offer to their students to facilitate their access to the contents of the library.

Our goal is to be able to offer our book lending services to the community of Santiago Atitlán through a virtual platform that allows access to young people, adults and children to review our available books. Afterwards, they will be able to borrow them at the library's facilities. It is a very big goal to be able to start expanding our library further while keeping our focus firmly on books.

The first step to achieve our goal was to update our Excel database with information about the books in our library as well as the new books. We are gradually moving towards our goal. Now we are thinking about expanding our space to have more virtual tools such as computers, tablets, large screens for presentations and a larger comfortable space.

Currently in Santiago Atitlán we are the only library that has its doors open. And we want to be able to impact young people and children who do not have the possibility of having a book, a computer or a space to work. We want to create a community of readers and critical people, in order to counteract the precarious reading that exists in the community.

We continue to believe in the power of reading. We appreciate your support to continue building reading communities. Thank you for betting on the education of the community of Santiago Atitlán through books.

Thank you - Miltayoox
