Traveling Library: Creating connections
TRAVELING BOOKS
We travel to where we can connect, imagine and create together.
“Traveling books” reaches out to communities each year to serve children, youth, grandmothers and families.Through books we connect with the communities while exploring multiple subjects that foster leadership, critical thinking, empathy, inclusion and literacy. And so we kick off our Libros Viajeros 2022 campaign that will enable us to maintain our connection with communities through books and creativity.
Artists creating connections with the community who are passionate about books.
In the last few months at the Puerta Abierta Library we have carried out various activities in the community. We have seen how families and friends have participated in being part of the projects, workshops, presentations and talks that are promoted in the library.
We have been motivated to promote cultural spaces where children, youth and grandparents are participants and, at the same time, become promoters of culture, art and education within the community.
During these months we have had the joy of being visited by several artist friends and workshop leaders who, with their talent, have filled us with the creativity which has motivated families in Santiago Atitlán.
Listening to the music of Pedro Boche, Aimin and Haroldo Mucu in different scenarios has inspired us to value the art and music of Guatemalan friends who highlight community art through their voices.
Imagining worlds and scenarios from storytelling has been incredible in the voices of our friends Mariela Beatriz Encuentada and Lenin Hijo de la Luna, who have fused their art into remarkable storytelling nights for diverse audiences in our community.
For our latest activities, we have promoted a Readings and Emotions workshop with our amazing librarian and workshop leader Karen Fernandez. Our friend connected different
organizations and community groups that work with other diverse groups to recognize the power of emotions. They promote the importance of books with families as a reliable tool to address and recognize emotion so they are able to manage them in their environment.
Every day we connect with friends and great artists who are passionate about reading with our Mobile Library project. When you support the Puerta Abierta library, you make reading reach more people in the community, such as, for example, the Traveling Books initiative.
