Traveling Library: Meet our volunteers!
In Puerta Abierta’s library we keep creating a connection with you and the community
This year we feel fortunate to have the support of a group of young ladies in our library. They are collaborating in sorting, cataloging, organizing, repairing, maintaining and above all, interacting with the library in its programs and activities.
They are basic and diversified level students. They carry out reading circles and workshops, led by Ruk’ux and Sparks’ youth collective.
In our last celebration, the students represented our community with a folkloric dance of Marimba Waltz, commemorating the 15 years that Puerta Abierta has driven education, literacy, critical thinking, creativity and art in the Santiago Atitlan community.
They are currently very committed to their role as volunteer librarians in our community. They continue to educate themselves and explore books and our library shelves, each of them filled with dreams and goals that they wish to accomplish in the future:
Melinda Esquina - "I like helping society, having new experiences, gaining new knowledge and having the opportunity to read and explore more books."
"In the future I would like to help other people professionally and also create my own library in my community."
Elena Sojuel - "I really enjoy helping my community and exploring books during my visits. In the future as a nurse practitioner, I would like to continue supporting my community in rural areas. All of this will be possible thanks to the opportunity given to me by the Puerta Abierta Library and for giving me a space to learn from their work atmosphere and books."
When you contribute to our Mobile Library and Community Library program, you help make these dreams and spaces a reality.
Thank you so much!
