Traveling Library: The book’s week
This is how we celebrate book month at the Puerta Abierta's Library!
In the Puerta Abierta's community there is great enthusiasm for April. This is the month we use our imagination to create scenarios for the celebration of books. We decided that 2021 would be an ideal year to celebrate in one week the joy and wisdom that books transmit to us.
So we organized our plans for the first day. Our idea was to have a space for a group of children to create books out of recycled materials. We started the week very excited. Each student worked at every detail in order to capture their creativity on a sheet of paper. With figures and images they told their imaginative stories.
On Tuesday we planned to have a concert of songs and stories. The music teacher and the librarian got together to bring a musical program of "canticuentos" to the preschool students. Finally the day had arrived. The book, The Monster of the Lagoon, and the electric musical instruments were ready. The children were very excited to see them. It seemed that on every page of that book flowed the imagination and curiosity of the music to come.
On Wednesday we decided to use technology as a platform for an afternoon of tongue twister sharing. Several children, teachers, parents and young people had joined the Zoom platform. We had guests who were professionals in tongue twisters and storytelling such as "Mariela Cuenta Cuentos". The children shared tongue twisters with their peers and teachers. Everyone appreciated the skill of Prof. Isaías and Mariela with these tongue twister games. Thus ended a fruitful afternoon of tongue twisters and lots of fun.
On Thursday we enjoyed the virtual storytelling. The whole community was invited to connect to the Facebook platform for a morning of storytelling. So much fun was had that one of the children, named Albin, had this to say: "The storytelling was awesome. With my whole family we were able to have immense fun."
This week of book celebration ended with an in-person festival with guest storytellers and the presentation of the giant book. In addition, we prepared a special, virtual puppet show on the Facebook platform. To end the week, each child received a cupcake with a book cover as a banner.
It was a very joyful week, a good way to celebrate this special book as a Puerta Abierta community.
