Yo’onik Learning Center: Children’s day at Yo’onik
Children’s day
Children's Day is celebrated with great enthusiasm in Yo'onik, we meet to share and express how April 30 is a special day for children. In addition to talking about their rights, we gather in the classrooms so we can carry out integration activities and games.so that everyone can live together respectfully and harmoniously.
The gathering is organized in advance so that we can choose a menu to be served at lunchtime. The food selected is something that is traditional of the town; such as a delicious chicken broth with handmade tortillas.
There are no traditional sweets for this date, so they hand out sweets that are bought in candy stores. To avoid accidents, piñatas are not broken either, since there is a risk when children run to catch the candy that falls from the piñatas.
On the other hand, some toys are bought, because there is no access to them in the indigenous communities. For the children, having a toy is happiness, which they express with smiles of joy on their faces.
For the classmates and teachers at Yo'onik, seeing the children happy is a great satisfaction. Knowing that the children will go home excited to continue enjoying their gifts brings joy to our hearts.
