Yo’onik Learning Center: Nature & Yo’onik

Long before we existed, nature was here. It deserves our respect and preservation. Sadly during recent years, illegal deforestation and water pollution has put our community, the environment we live in and our children’s future at risk. For this reason our actions, no matter how small they may appear, can make big changes if our efforts remain constant.

In Yo’onik we believe that cultivating the seeds of love towards  Mother Nature in children is crucial. She provides us with food. sacred water and glorious mountains. Her care is vital and it is important that children realize that they can help take care of her through their actions.

As part of our fundamental ecological activities we have protected the environment and our Mother Earth. For this reason we have planted pine trees on the mountain near Yo’onik, with the support of our volunteers.

We cleaned the nearest lake when it was available to us. Nowadays it has become more difficult to have access to it, because entry is prohibited.

At Yo’onik center we use the dry latrine, because it is a way of saving water and generating less waste. This is one of the actions that the children need to understand..They need to be aware that this is an available option that can help save water and protect the environment.

Finally,  our current efforts to reproduce the native trees in our community is extremely important. It is hard work but we are proud to care for the trees who, in turn, will care for us in the future.
