Traveling Library: Traveling books!

Traveling books help us connect, imagine, and create together.

We are happy to announce our new online fundraising relationship with DonorSee.  You can find our first funding petition here.

“Traveling books” reaches out to communities each year to serve children, youth, grandmothers and families.Through books we connect with the communities while exploring multiple subjects that foster leadership, critical thinking, empathy, inclusion and literacy. And so we kick off our Libros Viajeros 2022 campaign to maintain our connection with communities through books and creativity.

We travel among stories and songs with grandmothers.

It was a rainy afternoon. I was eager to discover the world of grandmas. As I entered a particular house I noticed the joy being expressed by each of the grandmothers. Previously I held the idea that grandmothers were only strong and serious. But when we began to talk about the curiosities in the story, I felt that I was sharing with the children what was inside the body of grandparents. It caused me so much emotion that it motivated me to give it my best.

When we shared the story, I could see in the grandmothers' eyes the fascination caused by the book's illustrations. The new words made their imagination fly. I found it amazing how books connect with human beings regardless of their age.

One of the grandmothers commented, "During the pandemic I had lost contact with my friends. I missed sharing story time with you. Sometimes I get sad when remembering the times we had together. Especially when a friend passed away during the pandemic. So, I want to thank you for making this meeting possible and for coming to share a story time and also for giving us so much joy".

These words made me understand that it was not only about sharing a storytelling moment with them. Telling a story is a privilege to transmit joy to their noble hearts.

Books continue to surprise me more and more. When you support the Puerta Abierta’s Library, you make reading reach more people in the community, such as, for example, the Traveling Books initiative.
